Located in the heart of downtown, Laconia Housing Authority (LHA) is an organization that provides subsidized housing opportunities utilizing federal government programs at properties owned/managed by LHA (Sunrise Towers, Blueberry Place, Orchard Hill II and Northfield Village) and through partnerships (Tavern Inn/Stafford House and Normandin Square) and by the administration of Housing Choice Vouchers (formerly Section 8).
At select properties, LHA provides direct support services (meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, personal care) enabling tenants to remain in their homes even if a little assistance is needed.
LHA also serves our community through various outreaches, such as the United Way, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, and the Turkey Plunge (which benefits the Salvation Army/Carey House; homeless shelter).
Please take a few minutes to explore our website and discover why Laconia Housing Authority is a valuable part of our community, and how you can get involved as a tenant or volunteer!

LHS Students Brighten our Day!
On Thursday December 19, Randy Brough of the Laconia Rotary Club, Laconia High School teacher Wendi Merkwan, Tracy Corbitt of the Laconia High School Interact Club, and the Laconia High School Interact Club students volunteered their time and visited Laconia Housing Authority’s Stafford House and Sunrise Towers properties. Both properties are restricted to seniors or persons with disabilities.
This is the third year in a row that Laconia Housing has been fortunate enough to be able to collaborate with these wonderful young men and women which brightens the day of many of our residents. The visits from the students, along with their well wishes and Christmas caroling, means so much and often leaves residents and staff alike in tears of joy.
Words alone cannot express our gratitude! We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition next year.
LHA Properties Smoke-Free
It is the policy of LHA to maintain a 100% smoke-free environment on all LHA owned properties, (all facilities, buildings and grounds, including parking lots and driveways) promoting a safe and healthy environment for tenants, clients, employees, contractors, volunteers, and visitors.
On August 1, 2010, smoking was banned at all LHA properties. Tenants who lived in one of LHA’s apartments prior to August 1, 2010 were able to petition for an exemption which would allow them to smoke inside their apartment thru July 31, 2011. During the transition, LHA Service Coordinators (who are trained in smoking cessation programs), Breathe – New Hampshire (www.breathenh.org), and LRGHealthcare have offered assistance to tenants.
Effective July 31, 2011, all exemptions expire and all LHA properties will be completely Smoke-Free as of August 1, 2011!
Introduction to LHA
If I was an older adult or looking for an independent living facility in the Lakes Region for a family member I would strongly consider the housing provided by the Laconia Housing Authority as an affordable, safe and caring community to live in."
